Primary Curriculum - Grades 1 and 2

At Navpad International School, we understand the importance of early education and its impact on a child’s future development. That’s why we have designed our primary curriculum with a focus on application-based learning. Our aim is to make learning an enjoyable and meaningful experience for our students and to foster a love for learning that will last a lifetime.

Our primary curriculum emphasises experiential learning and we use creative teaching tools, aids, methods, and activities to teach textbook concepts. This approach to education helps our students to better understand the concepts they are learning and retain the information for longer periods of time.

Academic Subjects:

English: Our students are taught the fundamentals of the English language, including reading, writing, grammar, and vocabulary.
Maths: Our maths curriculum covers basic mathematical concepts such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division, as well as more advanced concepts such as geometry and problem-solving.
Environmental Science (EVS): Our students are taught about the world around them, including topics such as the environment, weather, and animals. This subject is taught in an interactive and hands-on way, to help students develop a deeper understanding of the world and their place in it.
Hindi: Hindi is taught as a second language, to help students develop an understanding and appreciation of India’s rich cultural heritage.
Marathi: Marathi is taught as a third language, to help students understand the local language and culture.
Sanskrit or French: From grade 3 onwards, students have the option of learning Sanskrit or French as a third language. This helps them to expand their language skills and increase their understanding of different cultures.
Computer: Our computer curriculum covers basic computer skills such as keyboarding, mouse skills, and an introduction to common software programs.

Special Programs:

Art & Craft: Our students have the opportunity to express their creativity through art and craft activities. This helps them to develop their artistic skills and their imagination.
Dance: Our dance program teaches students the basics of different dance styles, such as classical and folk. This helps them to develop coordination, balance, and rhythm.
Music: Our music program covers the basics of music theory, such as rhythm and melody, as well as providing students with the opportunity to learn a musical instrument.
Physical Education: Our physical education program focuses on developing strength, endurance, and coordination, through a variety of sports and activities.
Sports: Our sports program provides students with the opportunity to participate in a variety of sports, including soccer, basketball, and cricket.
Public Speaking: Our public speaking program helps students to develop their confidence and communication skills, through activities such as debate, drama, and storytelling.
Value Education: Our value education program instils a sense of ethics and moral values in students, teaching them about honesty, kindness, and responsibility. It also aims to imbibe Jain values such as Ahimsa (Non-Violence), Satya (Truthfulness), Asteya (Non-Stealing), and Anekantvad (Non-Absolutism) that promote compassion, empathy, honesty, integrity, ethical behaviour, responsibility, tolerance, and acceptance of diverse views and beliefs.
Library: Our library provides students with access to a wide range of books and resources, to help them develop a love for reading and learning.
Our computer curriculum covers basic computer skills such as keyboarding, mouse skills, and an introduction to common software programs.

Assessments

Weekly Assessments: Short weekly objective tests serve as checkpoints in a student’s learning journey. These assessments help students to measure their progress and identify areas where they need to improve.
Periodic Assessments: Objective and subjective tests are conducted once in each term for all scholastic subjects, accounting for 10% of the final report card. These assessments help to provide a more in-depth understanding of a student’s progress and help to identify areas where they need additional support.
Summative Assessments: Summative Assessments at Navpad International School evaluate students’ understanding of scholastic subjects through objective and subjective tests. They contribute 40% to the final report card and provide valuable feedback for both students and teachers. The assessments include multiple-choice questions, fill-in-the-blanks, descriptive answers, essays, and problem-solving. Comprehensive assessments play a crucial role in students’ academic growth.

Primary Curriculum – Grades 3 and 4

In Grades 3 and 4 at Navpad International School, the approach to education is centred around experiential learning, where students learn by doing and experiencing new things. The goal is to create an environment where students can learn through hands-on activities, exploration, and interaction with their peers and teachers. This type of learning is more engaging and memorable, and it helps students to better understand and retain the concepts they are learning.

To support this learning experience, the school curriculum includes a range of subjects that focus on practical application and hands-on learning. The subjects offered in Grades 3 and 4 are:

Social Science and Technology (SST)– This subject covers topics related to the social sciences, including geography, history, and economics, as well as technology and its impact on society. The aim is to help students understand the world around them and develop the critical thinking and analytical skills needed to succeed in a rapidly changing world.
Science– The science curriculum covers the fundamental concepts of biology, chemistry, and physics. The aim is to help students develop a deep understanding of the natural world and foster a lifelong interest in science.
Hindi (2nd Language) – Hindi is taught as a second language, to help students understand and appreciate India’s rich cultural heritage. The aim is to help students develop language skills that will enrich their lives and expand their horizons.
Marathi (3rd Language)– Marathi is taught as a third language, to help students understand the local language and culture. The aim is to help students develop a deeper understanding of the culture and traditions of their community.
Sanskrit or French – Students have the option of learning Sanskrit or French as a third language, starting from grade 3. The aim is to help students expand their language skills and increase their understanding of different cultures.

Value Education – The value education program teaches students about ethics and moral values such as honesty, kindness, and responsibility. It can also help imbibe Jain values like Ahimsa, Satya, Asteya, and Anekantvad in students. Ahimsa promotes compassion and empathy, Satya promotes honesty and integrity, Asteya promotes ethical behaviour and responsibility, and Anekantvad encourages acceptance of diverse views and beliefs.

Assessments

Weekly Assessments: Weekly assessments are brief tests that are taken on a weekly basis to measure a student’s progress in their learning journey. These tests usually consist of multiple-choice or true/false questions and are designed to be quick and straightforward. The main purpose of weekly assessments is to provide students and teachers with regular feedback on the student’s understanding of the material covered in class.
Periodic Assessments: Periodic assessments are tests that are conducted once per term and are designed to be more comprehensive and in-depth than weekly assessments. These assessments may include a combination of objective (multiple choice, true/false) and subjective (essay, short answer) questions. They cover all scholastic subjects and account for 10% of a student’s final report card grade. The purpose of periodic assessments is to provide a more comprehensive evaluation of a student’s understanding of the material covered during the term.
Summative Assessments: Summative assessments are final exams that are taken at the end of each term. Like periodic assessments, they are comprehensive and include a combination of objective and subjective questions. These exams cover all scholastic subjects (excluding computers) and account for 40% of a student’s final report card grade. The purpose of summative assessments is to provide a comprehensive evaluation of a student’s understanding of the material covered throughout the entire term. The results of these assessments are used to determine a student’s overall performance and to make decisions about promotion to the next grade level.
